How to Dress for a Siesta Key Beach Family Photo Shoot

Family in coordinating outfits on Siesta Key beach

March 18, 2024

The right outfits can make a beach session feel effortless — and Siesta Key’s bright white sand gives you a gorgeous, neutral canvas to work with. Here’s how to dress the whole family.

Coordinate, don’t match

Pick a palette of two or three complementary colors and let everyone pull from it, rather than dressing identically. Soft, warm neutrals — cream, sand, dusty blue, blush, sage — photograph beautifully against the Gulf and won’t fight the sunset light.

Keep it soft and flowy

Light, breathable fabrics move nicely in the beach breeze and add life to your photos. Avoid large logos and tight neon brights, which can distract from faces and cast odd color onto skin.

Go barefoot (or close to it)

Bare feet or simple sandals keep the look relaxed and let the kids be kids. Bring a towel and a change of clothes for little ones — sandy toes are part of the fun.

Dress for the light, not just the look

We shoot in the soft hour before sunset. Lighter tones glow in that warm light; very dark outfits can read heavy. When in doubt, lean light and warm.

Quick questions

Should we all wear white?

All-white can look lovely but risks blending together. A mix of soft neutrals with one or two accent tones usually photographs with more depth.

What about shoes?

Barefoot is classic for the beach. If you prefer footwear, simple sandals in neutral tones work best.
